Chapter Eleven

Serena felt terrible for ending things with Rosa, but for now, it was probably for the best. She knew deep down that Rosa wasn't bad per se, but Rosa did need to figure out her life in her unique way. Serena knew for a fact acting that way wasn't going to get them to the point where they needed to be, and Serena could tell that Rosa was struggling to understand herself.

She just wanted Rosa to be honest.

After they parted ways, Serena went back home. She got a letter in the mailbox, and when she opened it, she paused, her eyes growing wide.

Serena

This is a warning from management, and right now, you're on strike number one of three. Come in during your hours, and if you continue not to show up, you will be terminated without warning. This is our first warning.

Thomas

“But I asked off!” she said.

Serena quickly dialed Ivy, and after a few seconds, Ivy spoke. “You got the notice too, right?” she asked.

"Yeah, what the hell is his problem? I remember both of us asked for the day off. So I don’t get his game, nor do I understand the problem all that much," she said.

"It's how he thinks we should be treated. He's trying to get rid of us, but, he's also running a shady-ass club. We need to go after him, Serena. We need to put a stop to this place, and we're probably going to hit a whole boatload of legal trouble, which is why I'm asking for your support," Ivy said.

Serena paused, trying to figure out what to do. “Rosa did say she wanted to see me stand up for myself, and dammit, if this is the way I must, then this is how I’ll do it,” she said.

"Wait. What?"

"Don't worry about this, Ivy. We need to start gathering evidence, and if they terminate us, then fine. I met with the troupe I'd be working with, and I know they're going to make it big. I do want to leave this place, but I'm just a bit hesitant," Serena said.

“Is it because of how they handled Amber?”

Serena then sighed. "Yeah. I remember she would get harassed at her new place, and they would always bother her. I don't want that, I want to leave to work my own job," she admitted.

It was all Serena wanted and that was what she worked for. After a second, Ivy spoke. "Then we need to work together. I have a lawyer, a friend of mine, who is willing to take this to court. We need more evidence. So what do you say? Truce?"

“Truce,” Serena said.

“All right, we both work tomorrow, so I think we should start by gathering evidence there,” she said.

“It’s fine by me,” Serena said.

She got off the phone, sighing as she tried to figure out what to do. She wanted to get the hell out of this, more than she ever wanted to leave anything before. She knew what they did to Amber could happen to her.
